Reach

Reach - A Bryce Canyon Tree", 3'x4', acrylic on canvas

Another canvas complete for the black and white show in May. I've been wanting to paint this tree since I saw it on vacation in Bryce Canyon in 2009. My daughter, Lillian, and I saw it hanging onto a cliff and reaching skyward. It is hard to understand how these bare trees continue to hold on to the cliffs from year to year without falling into the canyon. This seems to us an amazing feat and the lines that they create against the sky are always quite satisfying.

Sheep

'Sheep' is 4'x4', acrylic on canvas. I thought that I would sit next to it to give you proportion on this one. Still working on the black and whites for the show at Bountiful/Davis Art Center on May 13th. So, you will see a few more within the next month or so. These have been very tedious, though, I am enjoying the results...especially when seeing multiple paintings on the same wall! If you are in town for the show please come by; it should be a lot of fun!

Color

Peaches, 7inx5in, colored pencil
Pink Peony, 12in x 7in, colored pencil
While making the black and white paintings, I feel the need for color. So, I have been working on a smaller series of realistic drawings and paintings to feel the warmth of summer in the cool of Utah winter.

Buck

Buck, 2x4
This is another for the show. In May of this year, I have the privilege of showing my work in a show entitled, "It's not just Black and White" at the Bountiful/Davis Art Center. The other artists in the show are Merrily Kulmer and Reba Rauch. We are all working diligently since we have a very large gallery to fill. I figure with what I have done so far, I have one wall covered. It helps to have a 6x6 foot painting (camouflage, further down on this blog) already completed!

Since this post was written, 'Buck', was displayed at the opening of the Centerpoint Performing Arts Theatre in Centerville. (Invitation Only)

Garden Guardian

I know that it has been a while, though, I am back painting again! The Garden Guardian (3ft square, acrylic on canvas) is finished through many hours of black and white (though not half as many as the last deer painting.) Sorry that I didn't have more interim pictures for guessing; I am beginning another and will try to incorporate this.

Dynamic Pear

Here is "Dynamic Pear" completed in acrylics on canvas, 24in x 24in. It is oddly hard to photograph this piece to achieve the yellow intensity of the paints and appropriate contrasts. Though, at least you can get an idea of it.

Quick Drawings

Here are two additional doodles that I have finished recently. The Frog is an ink drawing about 2.5in x 2.5in, and the 'Runner' is pastel and approximately 10in x 12in.
