New Paintings

Here are a few of the paintings that I finished this month. One, you will see on the walls in the previous blog, others were on additional walls at the art center show.

"Hoodoos", Acylic on Canvas, 3'x3'
This idea originated from the Bryce Canyon rock formations called 'hoodoos'. Ebenezer Bryce once said, "It's a helluva place to lose a cow". Can you find a cow in the painting? How many faces do you see?

"Dragonfly Wing", Acrylic on Panel, 5 Panels, 1'x3' ea
Made with interference acrylic paints and, when seen from different directions, shimmers and changes hues.

"Do", Acrylic on Canvas, 1'x2'
Made with giant bubble wrap and extra black and white paint. This was a relief from the tedium of the camouflage series.

It's Not Just Black & White at the Bountiful/Davis Art Center (Utah)

Great seeing all of my paintings on the art center walls! The show opening was on Friday night and will be available for viewing until June 20th. With the play of my black & white paintings against Merrily Kulmer's abstracts and Reba Rauch's jewelry, it makes for a very modern and edgy show. Check out Merrily's full wall of 1' square abstracts! I feel very privileged to be showing at BDAC, what a wonderful venue.

Community Art

For the chalk art festival, I made a community art project to benefit the Joy Foundation. For 25 cents, people could purchase squares from a bowl, and fill in the pattern they see on their tile onto the art. Once the tiles are filled in, it will be a picture. We can't wait to see what it is!

Joy Foundation, founded by Jane Joy, brings various art forms to youth in our community. The foundation puts on many events throughout the year and every Saturday night is open mic night where the youth can share their talents.

Chalk Art

This past weekend was a chalk art festival for the Joy Foundation. 80+ artists joined together on the streets of downtown Bountiful, Utah to create sidewalk art. It was much fun and the weather just barely held out for us. Because of the black and white show that began on Friday night, I didn't have much of a chance to prepare for the chalk art festival, though, decided to draw "Scotty" when I was flipping through pictures and ran across his happy 'play with me, play with me' face. Scotty is owned by my sister-in-law, Reba, and her family and he's such a sweetie.
